Serve the City Day: A Mosaic of Support
OceanHills' "Serve the City" day is a 20-year tradition that mobilizes volunteers to serve vulnerable populations. For five years, OceanHills Church has partnered with The Turner Foundation by adopting The Village community. In 2025, 35 volunteers gathered on the Saturday before Thanksgiving to pack 112 Thanksgiving baskets, write encouragement cards in English and Spanish, and hang Christmas lights, creating a seamless transition from Thanksgiving into the holiday season.
Why We Fill Baskets Every November
Our Thanksgiving Basket Drive provides holiday support for low-income families by delivering complete Thanksgiving meals to every resident across our communities. What began as an ambitious vision has grown into an annual tradition providing over 550 meals. This community-wide effort brings together volunteers from local churches like Oceanhills, staff members, and residents themselves, creating multigenerational partnerships that exemplify the true spirit of Thanksgiving.
Culture Meets Community at our Hispanic Heritage Potluck
This September, our Village and Lighthouse communities came alive with the flavors, music, and traditions of Hispanic Heritage Month. Residents shared homemade family recipes, from taquitos to arroz español, all while flags from Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, and other Latin-American countries decorated the patios. Discover how a community potluck served as a beautiful celebration where people gathered to honor culture, connection, and belonging.
A Legacy of Vision and Service
From a single plot of land in 1958 to thriving communities across California, the story of Reverend Dr. Albert J. Turner is one of faith, vision, and service. What began as a dream to provide seniors with dignity and belonging grew into a movement that continues to transform lives today. Through housing, education, and community support, The Turner Foundation carries forward his legacy by creating places where people of all ages can belong, grow, and thrive together.
